A Penny For My Thoughts

I’ve Got The World On A String

By Paul Wein

Technology is an amazing thing. Throughout my life, I have seen countless technological advancements that have simply amazed me. From the Atari to the Playstation, from the 8-track to the MP3 – and now – from the floppy disk to the memory stick.

As Director of Marketing for Fillmore Real Estate, it is my job to purchase items bearing the Fillmore logo that can be used as executive gifts, company promotion and employee incentives. Of the many purchases of this type that I have made, the coolest were the fifty Fillmore.com 128-megabyte memory sticks I bought a few months ago. Weighing less than one ounce, these grey sticks can hold as much as 128 floppy disks, and 28-megs more than my old Zip drive. Amazing.

When I first got it, I was instantly enthralled by its ease in operation and its storage capacity. Having three computers that I use on a daily basis, (my tower at home, my laptop that I carry around, and my office computer) I am now able to transfer files back and forth as easy as slipping my memory stick in the computer’s USB port. When inserted, it acts as a separate hard drive, allowing you to move and store anything from documents, to photos, to movies, to music with ease – and carry them anywhere you would take your house keys.

I have used my Fillmore.com memory stick so many times that it’s a wonder that it still works. When I got my laptop last month, I had to dump all of my personal files from my tower at home onto the new laptop – and thanks to the memory stick – it took only a few hours – as compared to all day with my old method, which was having to disconnect and reconnect my Zip drive from one computer to another.

There are many times where I have worked on something at home and had to bring it to work, or vice versa – and was able to do so in less than a few seconds. I know that these memory sticks have been out for a while, but this is my first experience with one – and I confess that I am extremely impressed by them. Besides my 128-megabyte stick, there are sticks that hold 256-megabytes as well. In fact, Fillmore’s President John Reinhardt has one that hold an unbelievable two gigabytes of information – giving you limitless storage space.

I absolutely love my memory stick and as always, am blown away by this latest technological advancement. Considering that we are only four years into the 21st Century, I can only imagine what technological wonders await us in the next decade…

…I can hardly wait.
