The Best and Worst
By Paul Wein
With the year 2000 almost over, I thought I would cast my vote as to who has had the best and worst year in each of the three federations.
In the WWF, I think no one has had a better year then Triple H. A one time member of DX, he has gone from a player of the game to the Game itself. He is more jacked up then ever and shares a love/hate relationship with the fans that I haven't seen since "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Hands down - 2000 was the year of The Game.
I think the worst year has to go to Tazz. Coming to the WWF after dominating ECW - he jobs so much that even I could pin him now. When he was in ECW, he was an unstoppable force that would suplex his way through anyone that crossed his path. Now, he is feuding with the likes of Jerry Lawler and spends more time behind the mic and in gimmick tag matches then in the ring. This waste of pure talent to me is a classic example of the old saying, "Money isn't everything."
In the WCW, I think the person that had the best year was Booker T. Here is a man who has given his all to the WCW only to be eclipsed by each big name superstar they brought in. After hitting the singles scene without his brother Stevie Ray, Booker has shown the world that he can do it on his own. I think making him the champion was a true reward for his years of hard work in a federation that has not exactly given him rewards in the past.
The man that has had the worst year in WCW has to be Kevin Nash. It's no secret that he would rather be flipping burgers then be in the WCW, but at least put on a poker face. He just doesn't look happy. I think if he wants to have a better 2001, then he needs to pretend that he enjoys coming to work every day - then maybe WCW will do something with him.
In the ECW, the man who has had the most success in 2000 has to be Jerry Lynn. Here is someone who, in his own words, was tired of putting other people over and wanted a chance to shine himself. Well - he got that chance when he won the title at a recent pay-per-view. His matches are always full of action and when he steps through those ropes - the fans know they are in for a real treat. I hope that title is around his waist once again next year.
The worst year in ECW doesn't go to a wrestler - but to the owner of the company - Paul Heyman. Taking an idea for a federation and competing against the big two out of the basement of his mother's house - Heyman created a federation that has some of the most talented wrestlers and a cult following of fans reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. Unfortunately - his TV days are over when McMahon dropped some TNT on him and left him searching for a new network. Knowing Heyman's history of overcoming adversity, I'm sure that he will find himself on TV once again.
