What The Feds Should Be Thankful For
By Paul Wein
With Thanksgiving weekend upon us, it's time to reflect on what we have to be thankful for. So I thought I would begin the holiday tradition off with taking a peek at what our three federations have to be thankful for as they sit down with a big turkey.
The WWF certainly has a lot to be thankful for. This has been by far the most successful year in the company's history. I remember when McMahon couldn't get a network to even talk to him - and now - they're fighting in court for the rights to air his programming. He also has to be thankful for the fact that an idea for a restaurant in the heart of Times Square has become the most popular hangout in the Big Apple since Studio 54. Forget a burger - now fans flock there every Sunday night for live Heat - literally. On a side note, I am very close friends with the Press Secretary for the New York City Department of Buildings - and he told me that their big sign over the restaurant is illegal - nice guy that Press Secretary.
The WCW, although not sharing in the success of the WWF, still should be thankful for the fans for sticking by them through their worst year ever. Every business has a slump, but the loyal fans of the WCW have given the company a reason to clean themselves up and continue to press on, whatever happens to the WCW in 2001 is still a mystery - but it's no mystery that their fans will be there waiting. By the way, I read Goldberg's book, I'm Next - and I liked it. But who I would really like to see a book from is the Nature Boy Ric Flair - talk about your bestsellers.
There is only one thing that the ECW should be extremely thankful for - Scott Hall. After being fired by the WCW, Hall made his first appearance in the ECW just a few weeks ago. We all remember what Hall started when he walked on to the set of Nitro after leaving the WWF. This is also Hall's last stop since he was fired from the WCW and the WWF has no interest in taking him back, so I think - or should I say hope - that he will try his best to become the superstar he once was and deserves to be - and that's a fact Chico.
